American Flags Wave in Downtown Medfield

The American flags are waving again in Downtown Medfield thanks to MEMO, the Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization. H. Tracy Mitchell, owner of Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Service and chair of the committee, came to the MEMO Board this winter with a request for funds to replace approximately half of the existing flags, poles and mounting brackets. A portion of the flags are replaced annually as routine maintenance.

MEMO approved the funding and the flags look terrific!

MEMO Donates $500.00 to the Vine Lake Cemetery Preservation Trust

MEMO (Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization) recently donated $500.00 to the Vine Lake Cemetery Preservation Trust towards completion of the second phase of the improved horticulture at the Cemetery this May.

The trust will be planting shrubs and perennials along the bank in the Old Section of the Cemetery. MEMO took a leadership position in the first phase of the project, partially funding the purchase of eight trees. MEMO is pleased to contribute towards beautification of both Medfield’s and the cemetery’s beauty.

Medfield Youth Action Committee First Swing Dance Night

Brian McSharry of Closet and Storage Concepts, the MEMO representative on the MYAC Board, has passed along the following invitation to the community:

Hello everyone!

Medfield Youth Action Committee is pleased to formally and officially announce our first Swing Dance Night! The event is on Friday, March 23rd from 7-10pm at the Pfaff center! We will have a swing dance lesson at the beginning and a live performance from the Medfield High School Jazz Band! We will also have apple pie and icecream! Tickets are being sold at Lords for $3 or contact medfieldyac@gmail.com to reserve them. We also hope to host more dances in the near future and encourage the education of dance in Medfield and build on the success of the first one. Hopefully the next night will be a Latin night with Cha-Cha and Salsa dancing!

As we said in the meeting in February, we have used the planning of this event to help us in understanding how we will construct the manual. That will be our next major project moving forward in addition to planning and running more dances.

To follow up on our youth members- we held a meeting a week after our February one with all of you for students for underclassmen interested in joining. Of those at the first meeting, we have a solid group of 22 freshman/sophomores that are consistently coming to meetings! Today we taught them how to swing dance, so they will be helping out at this first upcoming dance.

Again, let us know how we can help your organization in town or if you have any ideas of events/changes that you want to see happen! We will also keep everyone informed about our current projects.

Lowell Mason Foundation Donation

In conjunction with MEMO’s Joy to the World singing contest, MEMO donated $1,000.00 to the Lowell Mason Foundation. Accepting on the foundation’s behalf was Cheryl O’Malley. Offering the giant check to Cheryl is MEMO President Brandie Morris and Tree Lighting Co-Chair Tim Borchers.

Holiday Parade takes to the streets of Medfield

Saturday, December 3, 2011 was a beautiful day for a parade. MEMO loves a parade! A fabulous job was done by our co-chairs Dan Nye and Reka Athanasiadis. Many thanks to our float sponsors, the Medfield HS marching band, the Medfield Fire Department and the Medfield Girl Scout Council – and our own Santa and Mrs. Claus!

Tree Lighting at Baxter Park

MEMO kicked off the holiday celebrations on Friday, December 2, 2011 with its annual tree lighting event. We introduced a new feature this year, a Joy to the World singing contest. Congratulations to all of the entrants – they had the voices of angels! Many thanks to our co-chairs, Tim Borchers, Lucille Fisher and Geralyn Warren, and our panel of distinguished judges.

MEMO Volunteers Restringing Christmas Lights

Thank you to the MEMO volunteers that turned out on an early weekend morning to re-lamp and check the Christmas tree lights. We’re all looking forward to seeing the twinkle of the holiday lights in downtown Medfield! Remember, the tree lighting events will take place on Friday, December 2nd in Baxter Park.

Personal Best Karate Grand Opening
